-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: VBR header fix fails started by gharris999 Posted by: gharris999 on Sep. 23 2003,06:04 When I use Windows XP explorer "properties" and "summary" to set MP3 tag info, Tag Studio will no longer perform a VBR header fix, failing with the "Mp3 headers out of sync for xxx, aborting!" message. I've tried everything (and tool) that I can think of to get the v1 & v2 headers back in sync, and the Tag Studio "Browse" page reports the tags as synced. Yet, the VBR header repair tool always fails. Posted by: gharris999 on Sep. 23 2003,17:39 OK, I was wrong. Having set tags using Windows Explorer doesn't effect this problem. Instead, it seems to be sample rate dependent. The MP3 in question is an audio book, encoded with LAME (Poikosoft implementation,) VBR with the lowest quality settings: mode=mono, quality=very fast, variable bitrate quality level=9 (lowest), samplerate=22050. Winamp File Info reports these specs: Length: 45846 seconds 43kbit (VBR), 1755072 frames 22050Hz Mono Even with no tags, MP3TagStudio won't perform a VBR header fix, failing with this error message: Mp3 headers of of sync for file xxx, aborting! Repair failed, no changes made MP3TagStudio doesn't seem to have a problem with MP3s encoded with the same settings, but at a 41000Hz samplerate. Accurately repairing the VBR header is necessary here, since with an MP3 of this length, you could loose 5 minutes of playback at the file's end on an iPod if the VBR header is bad. Any thoughts? Posted by: EpF on Feb. 02 2004,21:27 Hi - I just downloaded mp3/studio specifically to try out its VBR Header fix, and I ran into exactly the same problem as gharris999. The 'headers out of sync' error was returned on any MPEG-2 Layer 3 file at 22050Hz, even after I tried cutting it (also got a sync error), syncing the genres (which were originally different), removing the v1 tag etc... I did find another utility out there which does the job on the files no problem, but it is nowhere near as handy and usable as Mp3/Tag Studio - any suggestions, Magnus? PS - I have attached a zip file with two screenshots of the file info and the error report. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 03 2004,00:45 Just like above, if you send me a sample mp3 file having this problem, I can take a look at it. Posted by: hatstand on Feb. 09 2004,22:23 I've seen the exact same issue. Sample file here: < Test mp3 > Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 09 2004,23:24 Thanks! I have saved the file and will analyze it as soon as I get some time. end |
