In some cases MP3Tag-Studio doesn't display the album title of a file, while winamp shows an entry (ID3V2). I have no idea  under which circumstances this problem occurs. I've noticed it with all versions of MP3Tag-Studio. Is there a solution for this issue?

My guess would be that the two tag versions of the file contains unmatching data, and that you have your Mp3/Tag Studio configured to primarily display the tag that contains an empty album field.

If you email me a sample of an mp3 file for which you experience this problem I can verify it for you if you want anyway.

Primary ID3 Version is set to "v2". Winamp shows an empty Album field v1, album field v2 contains information. I'm not able to send you a sample of such a file because my freemail provider doesn't allow attachments larger than 2 mb. And I also don't want to break common copyright laws...   :disagree:

I actually don't know if it's possible to split the file into smaller parts without damaging the tag contents.

So far

Yes, you can cut off the end of the file, everything except, say the first 5 seconds of the song with the trim tool in Mp3/Tag Studio. The tag data will then be left complete, and I'm sure noone would mind about the first 5 seconds copyright-wise either. :) And you could always try yourself if the problem remains in the trimmed file before you send it to me, just to be sure.

If I cut off the end of the file, the album title will no longer displayed under mp3ts AND winamp! Other tag data remains unchanged. Cutting off the first minutes keeps the problem alive. Strangely, other tag information won't be touched, if the first or the last seconds are removed!?

Does that mean that the id3 tags (except album fields) are stored at the beginning and the end of a file!?

Ok, I've analyzed the file, and the situation is as follows:

Neither the ID3v1 nor the ID3v2 tag of your file contains any album info. There is a Lyrics3 tag added to the ID3v1 tag though, which contains this info.

Lyrics3 is a tag format that was created partly to compensate some shortcomings in the ID3v1 format, but was never really widely spread, and since ID3v2 fixed all these shortcomings it got even more forgotten. It is a quirk of Winamp to display Lyrics3 info as ID3v2 info, and it is an incorrect classification.

Mp3/Tag Studio does not support Lyrics3 tags, and that's why this album info is not displayed in Mp3/Tag Studio.

Regarding your question about where the tag info is stored, ID3v1 info is stored in the very end of the file, and ID3v2 info is stored in the very beginning. When trimming files with Mp3/Tag Studio, all tag data is retained though, no matter which end you cut off. The problem in this case was that Lyrics3 info is stored in the end of the file, just before the ID3v1 info, but since no other tag info than that in the ID3v1 and ID3v2 tag is retained by Mp3/Tag Studio when cutting off the end of a file, the Lyrics3 data (and hence the album info displayed in Winamp) was lost when you cut off the end.

Thanks for the fast and detailed answer!
Nice to know that MP3 Tag Studio is even able to keep the ID3 information while trimming a file!  :)

By the way - thanks for an excellent MP3 tagging tool! :)
