Given the recent events regarding MP3 licensing, I am quickly developing an interest in ogg vorbis. I know that Magnus has addressed this topic - I just wanted to add a vote of support for ogg functionality.

What are these recent events that you are talking about?

And if I only had the time I'd implement ogg support right now. Sadly, that is not the case, so it will probably have to wait a while. :(

It looks like a non-problem now. Basically some changes in Thomson Multimedia's license looked like they were gearing up to collect royalties for software decoders. Thomson has clarified the issue, stating that the fees were only applicable to HW implementations.

I sympathize with your situation - anytime I want to make my friends laugh, I ask if they can do something in their "spare time"  :p

I think the Ogg Vorbis format is leaning towards use APE 2.0 style tags anyway, which would require some coding by our good friend Magnus. APE tags are already in use by many other formats (especially lossless ones, like monkey's audio and musepack)

See http://www.uni-jena.de/~pfk/mpp/sv8/components.html for more info on APE and other interesting stuff.
