+---Topic: Random letters added to filenames and folders. started by ckramme

Hi,
first time user and I really really like what I see :) Already recommended it to several friends.

I have one problem thou. I used to have all my files thrown together in all kinds of strange folders.
I have just finished retagging all of them and wanted to rename the files and move the files into a more ordered folder fashion.

I used "c:\mp3<\><Artist><\><Album><\><TrackNr> - <Title>.mp3"
And pressed the start button.

When it was done it had added random letters to the folders and filenames.
Most have T after <TrackNr> and <Title>: 06T - <Title>T.mp3.
Some <Artist> is divided into <Artist>A, <Artist>G, <Artist>T, an so on. With the tracks being spread out between those folders.

I assume this is probably my own fault for not looking hard enough through the settings, but the files were moved and not copied, so I have to fix this somehow.
I would like this fix to NOT be me manually doing all the folders and files... ;)

Best Regards
Claus Kramme

This is a bug in older versions, please use the latest 3.5 beta and it should work just fine.

Also remember that all operations (i.e. the last operation of the tool in question) can be undone with the undo feature of each tool, even if the program has been restarted in between.

I'm a long, long time MP3 Tag Studio (MP3TS) user and I have good news for you: the MP3TS is not the responsible of those annoying mostly T's and, eventually, other letters.
For instance, I'm also a long time user of Winamp and in the large versions history of it I came up with fact that some versions of Winanp (including the last ones) add those T's to the main fields of MP3 files tag whenever you change anything of the tag from within Winanp. I donīt know why, but all the last versions of this software add the T's to my ID3v2 tags (I'm not shure about ID3v1 tags because I don't use them). It's not restricted just to Winamp, other programs do the same. However even though some programs could mess your MP3 files tags, MP3TS does not do the same: tags changed with MP3TS will be read by any other programs with no strange T's or A's or whatever other letter.
To summarize: some programs that allow editing of MP3 tags work in some way that, when you edit the tags with MP3TS, unwanted characters appear at the end of some fields.
I trust very much in MP3TS so I decided not to use any other program to edit tags but MP3TS. Every single MP3 file coming to my machine surely will be passed through MP3TS to fit with my filename/tag standards. I recommend you to do the same: get yourself restricted to MP3TS and you'll have no problems at all.
But sometimes MP3TS needs help from outside. You know, file naming and tag use is a chaos through out the Net. Everybody likes his/her own conventions to do this or has no one at all or files don't have tags. So, what is first, the egg or the hen. I mean, what I change first, the tags or the file names. When changing file names is the first option because tags are a chaos, you'll probably need a good file renaming program. I suggest you Renamer 6.0 to rename large number of files. Once file naming fits your standards (and I mean JUST names) then you will be able to use the functionality of MP3TS to deal with bulk tag editing. And when tags are already organized now you can deal with bulk file renaming using the interesting <\> feature to put the files in directories that fit your naming conventions. Don't be afraid to rename files more than once though progressive steps until to reach the desire choice.

Thanks for the info, and the recommendation. :)
