-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Mp3TS 3.0 won't open started by Kingpin128 Posted by: Kingpin128 on Aug. 15 2002,00:47 Hi all, firstly, Magnus, you have the greatest tagging program i have ever used, thank you for providing such a great program to the community. Now on to the problem, MP3TS 3.0 will not even open on my computer (1.4 ghz, Win XP, 256mb ram). Yet MP3ts 2.18 (the last version i used) will run easily. I have tried redownloading and reinstalling multiple times but nothing works. Posted by: Skirge01 on Aug. 15 2002,00:55 You're probably going to need to give a little more information than that, Kingpin. Exactly what happens when you try to run the installer? Anything? Nothing? Any messages? It probably won't make a difference, but did you try both versions (with and without the banner)? Any difference? *edit* I re-read your message. You ARE able to install it, but it won't open to start the program, correct? Same questions still, just make that in reference to the program, not the installer. :-) Also, in that case, have you tried shutting down other programs one at a time to see if they're causing the issue? Don't forget the stuff running in the background, too. Posted by: Kingpin128 on Aug. 15 2002,10:05 Sorry for the poor message, I just read it and realised how brief and not very clear it was. Well currently I have no programs running or anything in the backround (using control alt delete). When i select the program and (try to) open it, nothing happens at all, u get the loading mouse icon for about 1 second but then the program doesn''t load up. I know this seems brief but really I can't think what to write and what will be causing the problem as I said before the earlier version, 2.18 works fine. Also i have tried both versions (banner and non-banner) but neither work. Posted by: HeinerBusche on Aug. 15 2002,11:22 Ok, you can't see the Prog. surface, but can you see the prog. in the tasklist ? (Ctrl+alt+del) Are you able to use the context menu abilities on some mp3 files ? (rightclick on file) /Heiner Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 15 2002,18:03 Just as Skirge and Heiner says, I would need as much info as possible to have any chance of knowing what causes this. Also, I would like to hear if any other person have had any similar problems? I haven't had a single other report of something like this, neither during beta testing, nor after the release. Any info or clues you are able to provide would be of great value in tracking this down (if it isn't some kind of local problem in your system of course, making it completely impossible for me to find it). Are you running a debugger or any similar software in your system? Posted by: Kingpin128 on Aug. 15 2002,18:43 Hi all Ok, no I am afraid Mp3TS 3.0 doesn't appear in the task list. Yet the right click functions do work (rename to format artist etc) apart from edit this file in MP3ts 3.0. Sorry if I seem so brief with this it's just all I get is the loading mouse icon when i try and open the program itself, but nothing happens, nothing loads up, and the program isn't in the task list. Like I said 2.18 works fine, could there be a conflict, (I did uninstall 2.18 and delete it's folder before installing 3.0)? Sorry for not saying the right click list worked, I don't use it much so didn't know. Posted by: HeinerBusche on Aug. 15 2002,20:36 @Kingpin: Do you run an unusual Screen resolution, use multiple (split) desktops on more than one monitor ? changed system fonts to something non-default ? or the fontsize to something non-default ? Mp3ts seems to adjust itself to the current screen size when it starts (am I right Magnus ?). Maybe, due to some unusual settings at that point something goes wrong... /Heiner Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 15 2002,23:22 There should be no conflicts with earlier versions that are able to cause this behavior, and neither should any screen size or appearance settings be able to do it (although it is always a good suggestion to check these if you have other kinds of problems with the interface of the program). I have no idea right now what might cause these problems for you, but please tell me if you come up with anything else, and I will do my best to help you. Btw, any attempts to crack the program might cause similar behavior, but I assume that you are not involved in such activities. Posted by: Skirge01 on Aug. 16 2002,00:19 I think Heiner may have hit on something with asking about anything "unusual" about your setup. Whether it's simply a program (like Stardock's WindowBlinds) that you don't normally think about or some other configuration you have that's out of the ordinary. Definitely give those some thought. First, have uninstalled 3.0, rebooted and re-installed it with the same results? Have you tried starting Tag Studio with the -noresize option? Is anything hiding in your system tray (by the clock... no offense intended... some people don't know what it's called)? Just for kicks, try changing your display settings to a standard VGA adapter with a 640x480 resolution and see if that does anything. Note: I'd suggest that after you attempt anyone's suggestion here and try to open Tag Studio, if it doesn't open... reboot. This will ensure that the previous failed attempt to open isn't still causing an issue. I wonder if Tag Studio will open in Safe Mode??? Might want to try that, too. Keep us posted.... George (people here are pretty friendly, so I thought I'd sign my name ![]() Posted by: Kingpin128 on Aug. 16 2002,01:28 Hi again Ok, I have no unusual display settings on (tried all resolutions etc, no change with the problem). Nor do I have programs in the background (don't worry I am not insulted by the 'near the clock', I have experience with background programs, ie ctrl alt delete, but so would most people who use windows a lot ;) ) The -noresize adding to a shortcut also doesn't work I am afraid. Magnus, no I am not involved with cracking your program, so no problems damaging or corrupting the program. Safe Mode also doesn't produce any different result either. Posted by: Skirge01 on Aug. 16 2002,06:16 Wow, Kingpin. I'm out of ideas then. I can't think of anything else to try. Sorry. ![]() I think we may have to leave this one up to "the man" himself... Magnus. ![]() Magnus... do you have a version with some sort of debugger in it? Also, there's no "prerequisite" for Tag Studio (i.e. vbrun60), is there? George Posted by: HeinerBusche on Aug. 16 2002,11:56 strange, strange, strange.... Have you ever tried to install that file(s) that you downloaded on someone else's PC ? Only to be sure that it's not only a corrupt file problem.... /Heiner Posted by: Elbow on Aug. 16 2002,12:04 Kingpin , welcome to the Board. You mentioned that you can see MP3/TS when you right click an mp3. Have you tried clicking on the option 'edit this file in MP3 Tag Studio' ? Just a thought. (prob a bad one at that) Elbow Posted by: Kingpin128 on Aug. 16 2002,12:35 As I mentioned earlier TokyoElbow, the edit this file in Mp3ts function doesn't work, all the other 'right click menu' functions work fine. Thanks for the welcome ![]() BTW thanks to everyone who is offering help on this, I look forward to seeing the new version of the program ![]() Posted by: Magnus Brading on Aug. 16 2002,22:34 There a no "prerequisite files" or system file dependencies of any sort in Mp3/Tag Studio, no. Sadly I will have quite a bit of a problem to find the source of this problem too, since neither I or any other person I have heard from to this day have experienced had this problem. ![]() I would encourage you to follow Heiner's advice though, and try if your install file works on any other computer you can access. Some kind of local problem, either with the file or your system, would be somewhat suspected due to the failure of anyone else to reproduce the problem (but of course it could be some kind of complex bug too). Another thing, are you running any antivirus program or similar on the computer? Try to see what happens if you disable it in that case, because some non-professional antivirus programs might have problems with self-modifying code, which does occur in the program. end |
