I just downloaded MP3 Tag Studio a few days ago and like it a lot except for a couple of problems, the most irritating of which is this: when I generate a list, the program works fine unless it comes across a file which doesn't have a tag that it likes, or which is missing a tag.  When that happens, I get the error screen and the program freezes.  The only way I've found to close the program at this point is using Ctrl-Alt-Delete, something I've never run into with any program before.  Since it doesn't freeze the computer, just the program, it's not a fatal flaw, but it is irritating.

I'm using Win98 and have 640 MB of RAM (in case this info is helpful).

I didn't see any other posts about this problem, so apparently it's not a common one.  If I could solve it, I'd be happy to register the program.

Thanks,

Spike

If you send me a sample mp3 file for which this happens, I'll try to reproduce the problem and analyze/fix it.

That's a problem.  The only files I have currently which cause it to choke are three in the Reject folder, and they're 4-8 MB each. I've already fixed all the others. Starband will time out if I try to send any file 1 MB or larger as an e-mail attachment.  I was able to upload a 3 MB file to a newsgroup, but it took over half an hour.

It's not any particular file.  Any file will do it if there's no tag or there's anything about the tag which the program doesn't like.

I ran the Repair utility on the program and it didn't help.

Do you have another suggestion?

It sounds very strange, and I have never heard of anyone having any similar problem for files without tags.

Anyway, if you like, you could split up the file in smaller parts, e.g. with WinRAR, and then send these parts as attachments in different emails, that should work.

It's not the file that does it.  I'm sure of that.  I can put any file which is not an MP3 in the folder and it will happen.

Actually, I don't think the files have anything to do with the problem.  The window I get when this happens is not complete.  The right side and bottom appear to be chopped off and there are no icons in the upper right corner to close,  minimize, etc. which I assume there would be if I were getting the whole window.  (I can send you a screen shot of this if you'll give me the address to send it to.)  I believe if I had a Close button, I wouldn't be having a problem.

Another thing that makes me think the problem has nothing to do with the files themselves is that if I check "use explorer browse tree", the tree comes up, but part of the right side of the main screen is chopped off so that only the E in Execute is visible.  The icons in the upper right corner remain, fortunately.  Closing the explorer part of the window does not make the main window resume its original configuration.  I can send you a screen shot of this, too, if you like.

I tried resizing the screen area in Control Panel but that didn't make any difference.  I didn't change the choice of large fonts to small fonts because that requires rebooting and this computer takes forever to reboot.

If there's anything else about the configuration of my computer which would be helpful in diagnosing the problem, tell me.  I can't think of anything.

As you mention, this might only be a problem with your large fonts setting (as discussed in several other threads on this board, please search for them).

Have you tried starting Mp3/Tag Studio with the "-noresize" parameter? If I were you I would bite the bullet and try it once without large fonts too, dispite the long reboot time, just to make sure it's not only that.
