Deeeeeeeeeeear Magnus,

Please ... if I had one wish, any, for my life, then ... (okay, I just lied. But close enough! ) :ashamed:

Please implement id3v2.4.
Please, please, please, pleeeeeeeeeeease ... :ashamed:

Look at my cute username ... or I don't know how else to sway you, but ... :-)

OK, seriously, if I haven't stopped you from reading yet with all my begging ... the problem is the following: your tagger is by far the most advanced and wonderful one I have ever seen. But advanced users take advantage from 2.4's benefits and thus cannot use your software (without losing data).

That would really be like Christmas.
Thanks for reading.
Kind regards.

1 year later ...
Wouldn't it be quite easy - from a developpper's point of view - to implement the few changes which separate 2.3 from 2.4 ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...._2.3.29
http://www.id3.org/id3v2.4.0-frames

changed frames:

TRDA replaced by the TDRC frame
TYER replaced by the TDRC frame
TSIZ deprecated.

new frames:
Code Sample
ASPI Audio seek point index
EQU2 Equalisation
RVA2 Relative volume adjustment
SEEK Seek frame
SIGN Signature frame
TDEN Encoding time

HI Magnus,

Is there any chance this will be implementet.

I've been a long time user of Mp3tag studio. Use it every day on myl 450.000+ song collection.

However recently I run into the v2.4 and mp3 tag studio just stops working ... I can clear the unknow frames and rebuild, but it is time consuming.

Any chance?

I hope so, would hate to have to find a new solution.

Regards Leif.

The problem is that ID3v2.4 isn't just a few frames being replaced by others, but rather, some fundamental changes to how tags are written to begin with too. This means that the needed changes are relatively big.

With the current sales figures of Mp3/Tag Studio, in relation to my small spare time, this update sadly isn't justified at this moment I'm afraid. :ashamed:

Also, even though some softwares use ID3v2.4, it seems like ID3v2.3 still is the dominating standard (even though it would of course be nice to support them both).

what changes are you referring to? I have read the 2.4 specs and I can't remember seeing these fundamental changes you say are in there. I might have missed them, but what are they?

3. Tag structure changes

The location of tags in a file as well as methods to find and merge tags are far better defined in ID3v2.4.0 [S:5] than previous versions. A reverse search for tags are improved by the addition of a tag footer [S:3.4]. A tag footer flag has been added to the header flags to indicate the presence of a ID3v2 footer, hence the size field is not affected by the footer [S:3.1].

The extended header has been completely rewritten [S:3.2] and can not produce false synchs. It is also possible to indicate artificial tag restrictions in the extended header, for use with thinner clients.

Unsynchronisation [S:6.1] is done on frame level, instead of on tag level, making it easier to skip frames, increasing the streamability of the tag. The unsynchronisation flag in the header [S:3.1] indicates if all frames has been unsynchronized, while the new unsynchronisation flag in the frame header [S:4.1.2] indicates unsynchronisation. To avoid false synchronisations in the frame header the size description and flag field has been rewritten [S:4]. Resynchronisation of the complete tag when the unsynchronisation flag in the tag header is set might result in a corrupt tag.

The character encodings UTF-16BE and UTF-8 has been added to the list of valid encodings [S:4].

oh yes, I might have missed the scope of it. that does ring some bells.

Maybe the reason of low sales figures is linked to missing 2.4 support? I'm just saying. I mean think of it, your tool is THE swiss army knife for mp3 tag operations. The target user is NOT your average home user (who really won't get into the business of the why's and how's but just uses a one-size-fits-all solution which fully automatically tags songs, downloads coverart and lyrics and also acts as a Music Manager, Media Catalogue, Media Jukebox, Media Player, CD Ripper and file converter ... something like iTunes or other big-bloat-software).

Your market segment is the advanced user who actually has some use for all your functions, bells and whistles. But these are exactly the folks who are likely to use 2.4.

I don't know if supporting 2.4 is a guarantee for substantially increasing sales figures.
On the other hand, NOT supporting 2.4 is as all but guaranteed to be an insurmountable stumbling block for satisfying sales figures.

Hi Magnus,

Thank you for your reply.

I do agree with lovelove, there is no better mp3 editor.

I don't know about how much you sell. So I can't comment on that.

Are we to understand that this is the end of line??

You are right, that 2.2 is now prevailing, however I do get more and more 2.4, so I need to know whether to look elsewhere.

Regards Leif.

It is 2.3 that is the most common one, not 2.2, just for correctness.

And no, this isn't any "end", there are just some more demanding new suggested features such as this one that are not worth it to implement at this point.

Hi Magnus,

Yea ... I am not the programmer or really into the outs and ins of MP3 tags :D

Anyway thank you for you honesty. I will see how often MP3 Tag Studio encounters version 2.4 ... I dont really need the 2.4 information, so for the time being I will hang around, but will try out other options (which I have not bothered with for years, I have ripped 2200 Vinyls and all have been tagged with MP3 Studio Tagger, it has been the best for me, thank you for making it, thank you for all the years it has been a companion with keeping my music collection of 450000+ songs in order, it has been a great companion.)
