Hi,

I have a collection of lecture MP3s that have the dates contained within the TITLE tag.    The dates use / (forward slash) marks to separate the month, date and year.

The actual filenames are just random characters, so I'd like to mass rename the files using the TITLE tags as the new filename.   My problem is that the / character is not a valid character for use in a file name.

I would therefore like to use MP3 Tag Studio, if possible, to automatically go through all the TITLE tags of my MP3 files, and change any / characters it finds to - (hyphens or minus-signs).   Is this possible?

Any non-valid file system characters are automatically converted by Mp3/Tag Studio to a dash ("-") when you create file or directory names on them, so it should work just fine without any conversion at all actually. :)

One solution would be to use listmaker to create a custom list, putting the filename and title into the list, then

Edit the list in a text editor with a global find/replace (such as Notepad++) and changing the title field as you want, then

Do a tag/rename from list and put the new title tags into the file, then

Do an Auto Rename from Tags to put the new title in the file names.

After you experiment a bit and get your masks and such right, it is actually a quick process, taking only about 5 minutes or so for even a large group of files.

Good Luck,
