-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: beta 17 Access violation started by Owen Posted by: Owen on April 18 2006,17:08 Hi. I just downloaded and installed beta 17 after the previous beta timed out. I now get "Access violation at address 00402B51 in module 'mp3tag_s.exe'. Read of address 1002FFFF" as soon as I click on the name of a file while in the "Browse/Edit tags & flags" tab. Any ideas? Thanks! - owen. Posted by: Owen on April 18 2006,17:33 sorry to followup my own post, but: In case this helps diagnosis: I just started the expired beta 15 of MP3TS on another machine. After giving me the "This is an expired beta" message and after I clicked on it to make it go away, I got a similar crash message: Access violation at address 0047D796 in module 'mp3tag_s.exe'. Write of address 00000038. Is it possible the expiration "process" is messing things up somehow? - owen. Posted by: Magnus Brading on April 18 2006,22:33 I cannot reproduce this problem, is anyone else experiencing this? Owen, what operating system version are you using? And are you sure this happens for all mp3 files you select in the browse tool? Please try some completely different mp3 files (i.e. of completely different origin than the initial ones causing the crash), and see if it still happens. I would suspect that your crashing files might have corrupted ID3v2 tags otherwise, causing this problem. Posted by: Owen on April 22 2006,23:31 Hi Magnus, you're right - the problem appears connected to specific MP3 files. I incorrectly assumed a connection as these were the first files I attempted to work with after the update to Beta 17. Poor troubleshooting on my part - sorry. If you want I can email you the offending MP3... - Owen. Posted by: softikuss on Oct. 13 2006,00:05 Has this problem already been solved? I have exactly the same problem (message "Access violation at address 00402B51 in module 'mp3tag_s.exe'. Read of address 1002FFFF" ) for some MP3s, when I try to edit or delete tags. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 13 2006,23:26 This is a typical sign of heavily corrupted ID3v2 tags in the mp3 files in question. Isolate these files, then use the option in Mp3/Tag Studio to completely remove the ID3v2 tags of these files, and re-tag them. Then the problem should be fixed! Posted by: softikuss on Oct. 13 2006,23:37 I have already tried to use mass clean up tags! But even when I remove ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags completely MP3TS crashes with the message above. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 13 2006,23:41 There is one kind of corruption that could crash even this removal method. In this case, if you can, please try to write zero-bytes to the first 50 bytes in the file, then use the file repair mode that removes junk before the first mp3 frame. That should/might help. Posted by: softikuss on Oct. 13 2006,23:43 You mean I should load the MP3 in an Text editor, and type 50x the char "0" ? And then safe it as a binary file? Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 14 2006,00:13 The safest/best way is to use a so called "hex editor" to perform such binary editing. If you don't know what this is, please be careful. Either way, always backup your mp3 file before attempting such a thing! Also, you should overwrite the first 50 chars, not insert data in front of them. Posted by: softikuss on Oct. 14 2006,10:38 Wouldn't it be possible (and a good idea) to implement such a "repair" tool in MP3TS? I like Mp3TS very much and I would like to use it as my only tag tool. I have just tried to edit/write those MP3 files with MP3Tag (http://www.mp3tag.de) I has no problems at all to do it, no crashes! However I do not like MP3Tag for all its other functionality, I very much prefer MP3TS. Maybe you could consider to build a repair tool (or an automatic routine) that does prevent / warn from thoses access violations / crashes within MP3TS, I (and I am sure others with this problem) will very much enjoy and would be grateful for keeping up your good work! Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 14 2006,12:34 Yes, auto-handling of corrupted tags is planned for a future version. Posted by: softikuss on Oct. 14 2006,12:45 Thats great to hear! Wish it will be released soon. end |
