-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: bulk edit "album artist" attribute started by dansu1 Posted by: dansu1 on Jan. 11 2008,10:56 I want to bulk update all of the “album artist” attributes in my collection of ~70,000 mp3s. The way that I have my files organized, the easiest way to achieve this would be to run a bulk update that looks at each file and overwrites the “album artist” attribute with the current string value in the “artist” attribute. If that is not possible, the next way to achieve the desired result would be to overwrite “album artist” with the name of the parent directory of the directory where the individual files reside. I.E. My files are organized like this. Folder: Artist name Subfolder: Album title 1 Individual mp3 1 Individual mp3 2 Etc Subfolder: Album title 2 Individual mp3 1 Individual mp3 2 etc I would like to find a way to use the name of “Folder: Artist name” to overwrite the “album artist” attribute of every individual mp3 file in one of the subfolders. However, I don’t want to overwrite any of the other attributes. I.E. the “Artist” and “Album” attributes need to remain unchanged. Does mp3ts have this functionality? If so, is it documented somewhere? Posted by: calberga on Jan. 11 2008,16:18 You can set a tag from the contents of another tag using the "Direct tag Manipulation" tab. Open it and check "Advanced mode", move the slider to the top (to activate only one "from/to" pair) and right-click on either side to display a drop-down list of tags, including all the supported V2 tags. The only possible glitch that I can see is that none of the supported tags is explicitly called "album author", (see: "Using special ID3v2 fields as sources and targets" in the Mp3/Tag Studio "Help"). So it may be that the tag which you wish to set is not one of the standard ones. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Jan. 11 2008,19:03 Same question here, exactly what is the "album artist" field? Posted by: dansu1 on Jan. 11 2008,21:39 In ID3 parlance, I think that this attribute is referred to as TPE2. TPE1 is Artist TPE2 is Album Artist Tables don't work so well in this interface but here's a matrix that I found on the web of ID3 tags and what various players call them: ID3 WMA iTunes WMP 10 Winamp TPE1 Author Artist Artist Artist TPE2 WM/Album Artist Album Artist Album Artist Posted by: dansu1 on Jan. 11 2008,21:45 Here's a link to the matrix that I found on the web...http://www.mp3tag.de/en/help/main_tags.html Posted by: dansu1 on Jan. 12 2008,06:24 Eureka! I think that I found the solution. I'm using Advanced mode on the Direct Tag Manipulation tab to transfer <Artist> ------><V2_TPE2> and so far it looks like the charm. Magnus Brading...I want to have your baby...and I'm a guy! ![]() BTW...the reason I'm doing this is because most players build their list of artists based on the value of <V2_TPE2> rather than <Artist>. I'm am not at all interested in having any babies for the devs who made those decisions! Posted by: Magnus Brading on Jan. 16 2008,19:40 Hehe, I'm glad it all worked out, and that I have another contestant for my babies. ![]() end |
