Topic: What will TagStudio Do< Next Oldest | Next Newest >

This post is prompted by me setting 'cut filename to 64 characters' and then forgetting about it. In fact I ran TagStudio for several days and only noticed something was wrong when some files had lost their winamp icon. Certainly my fault, even though I always look at the preview results to check it's going to do what I expect it to do, I don't inspect every result. But there is a wider issue. Before every run I want to double check what's going to happen. Due to the program's ability to do so much, every time I have to go to several different windows to check the filter and casefix and replace settings. What is you opinion of for example a pop up window to summarise what it's going to do, especially noting any 'destructive' settings. The preview function is superb for checking whether it's done what you hoped, but not necessarily for showing if it's done something unexpected to a minority of files.

Hmm, I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but wouldn't running in preview mode and then looking at the messages in the warning window be something like that? The warning window should contain info about several possibly unwanted effects on files and similar.

Yes thankyou, it gives a warning exactly as you say. Now I can't think of any good excuse but I had the warning messages turned off.
But the further suggestion for summarising the filter and casefix settings remains. To check the filter settings from any tool you have to access all 4 tabs in turn. OK so it doesn't take many seconds, but it would be even easier if the current settings, or preset, showed in the message display panel.  Similarly the for the casefix and substring replacement settings. Alternatively wouldn't the casefix and substring replacement panels fit side by side on the same panel? That would be another way to reduce the amount of jumping between tabs. In fact all 4 filter tabs might also fit on one panel too

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. Regarding showing everything at once there are two primary considerations: First, users can get very confused when presented with too many controls at once, hierarchical structuring is often much better from this point of view. Second, the program should be kept compatible with 800*600 resolution, and then all the controls won't fit on a single screen at the same time. :(
