-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Auto tag from file names Question started by Shanon Lawton Posted by: Shanon Lawton on Oct. 12 2003,20:08 I just got an Ipod and discovered my mp3's are not tagged well at all. This is one of the few apps I've found that really lets me set tags the way I like! I am having some trouble figuring out one thing though. How do you get the track number from filenames that look like: 1) (XX) <Song Title> 2) (XX)<Song Title> So far the only tools I've really used are those on the "Auto Tag (from filenames)" Tab. I tried substring substitution, but it doesn't seem to work. Do I need to rename the files somehow? Thanks, Shanon Posted by: Disposable Hero on Oct. 13 2003,01:00 With Auto Tag From Filenames, you should be able to use the following for your examples. You need to check "Advanced Mode" in order to type in and edit the "Expected File Name Format" text field. For: (XX) <Song Title> Use: (<TrackNr>) <Title>.mp3 For: (XX)<Song Title> Use: (<TrackNr>)<Title>.mp3 Obviously the same thing, with a space as the difference. When you're using the auto-tag tools you're telling it what to "expect" in the filenames. If there are parentheses in the filename, you can use the advanced mode and add parentheses where necessary. Don't forget that you can save these custom settings as presets - just click the little plus sign button (+) and it's saved. From then on you can use the drop-down menu (click the down-pointing arrow button to the right of the text field) to select your custom preset. This helps a lot if you need to rename a lot of files with similar naming styles. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 13 2003,14:26 Yep, that's correct. You can also get away with using only one of these templates, namely this one (i.e. the one without the space after the parenthesis): (<TrackNr>)<Title>.mp3 If you combine it with the "Trim leading/trailing spaces" option of the "Case fix and replace" tool. This will work for both situations at once. Posted by: Guest on Oct. 14 2003,03:23 Thank you both. That did the trick. I had tried something similar, but I was leaving in the "-" from the original template between the (<TrackNr>) and <Title>, which was throwing things off. Many thanks! Shanon end |
