I'm looking to buy a portable MP3 player. Cost is not a concern (I don't believe they make "elite" portables yet).
What I'm looking for are 3 things:
1. Small in size (as small as possible, really... no MP3 CD players--too big)
2. Decent sound (I don't need tons of bass, but I have to be able to hear it over the radio at the gym)
3. At least enough space to hold 3 CDs (30+ songs encoded at 96k-128k VBR should take up about 25-30 megs)
Anyone have some suggestions? I'd like to hear from people who actually own one, as opposed to "this one looks good!" If you've bought one and don't like something about it, please tell me that, too.

Ever looked at the iPod? It got a 20gig HD and supports Playlists. Look at < apple.com/ipod > or < google > a bit.
I tried it once in a mall and was amazed. But in my case cost is a concern.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I do appreciate it. Those two are probably exactly what I was trying to avoid. I don't want the CD player type (too big) and the hard drive models tend to be too heavy. I need to find one that uses memory sticks or something.
That little thing SonicBlue came out with sounded great, but everyone I talked to told me the sound was horrible and it wasn't very user-friendly when trying to get it to do something.
I guess I'll keep looking.

There are also some devices out that use these small cd's. Maybe half as size of a normal cd. if your burner is able to use those it might be the right thing for you.
But with all these cd players there's one big problem. Even if you have a few minutes built in shock protection, the player will stop if it has no non-shock time to reload the memory. I don't know what sport you're doing in the gym, but if it's something where you constantly move, the cd solution dropps out. ( I had this problem when I tried to run with a minidisc player).

I'm still alive, but have been busy traveling with work. Anyhow, thanks to Disposable Hero, I bought a MuVo. The thing is AWESOME! Perfect for what I was looking for. Tiny, plenty of storage space (well... enough for me to live with anyway, hehe), no major controls to concern myself with.
I've been using it at the gym for about a week now and it's just GREAT! It's truly the easiest thing to use, too. It really is as simple as open the box, plug it in and put files on it!

You've got quite some typing to do to catch up with your former board-rank-equals, like e.g. Disposable Hero (as you might have seen, he's the board's only three-star now, he's been a really good boy

I try to travel as little as possible, unless I get something out of it. Going to California was a nice bonus
after the boring trip to Atlanta. 
But, I'm done traveling with work for a little while. As long as I close on my house in time, I'll be heading to FL for Thanksgiving, though.I'll see what I can do about dropping in a little more often, seeing as how I'm so missed.
