-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Uninstall in Vista started by deboyer@verizon.net Posted by: deboyer@verizon.net on Oct. 14 2008,21:58 In Vista, nothing shows in control panel, programs and features (where you go to uninstall or repair installed programs) for Magnus Brading or MP3 Tag Studio. See history below. Anyone know how I can uninstall?? I installed the beta version (3.05) some time ago and never really used it. I just tried it today and it had expired. I downloaded and installed the 3.05 version with banners assuming it would overwrite the beta. Now I have two versions. One under ProgramFiles\MagnusBrading and the other under ProgramFiles\MagnusBradingSoftware. Neither will start at this point so I figured I'd uninstall each. No luck. Nothing shows and no uninstall files in the folders. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 15 2008,12:49 There should always be uninstall entries created in the normal control panel location for Mp3/Tag Studio, so this sounds very strange. Does anyone else have this problem in Vista? Posted by: deboyer@verizon.net on Oct. 15 2008,15:42 More background - problem reason: I have an account for myself, my wife and an admin account on my computer. I normally operate in my account. That is where I did the installs for Tag Studio giving the required admin password. This morning I switched to my admin account and the two versions do show up in the control panel. I attempted an uninstall and it warned me that other users were logged on (I think this is a problems also). So I switched to my account, logged off, went back to the admin account and uninstalled both versions. I'll try the install again later from the admin account and let you know results from that. Thanks, Dave Posted by: deboyer@verizon.net on Oct. 16 2008,00:18 More background: I unpacked my download and installed the new 3.05 version using my Admin account (the install finished successfully). After install, the program fails to start with error "MP3Tag_s.exe has stopped working". The same problem occurs from my user account. Note that the start menu under my user account does NOT show the this software. I need to start it using windows explorer from the program file directory. Hope this additional info helps. Dave Posted by: deboyer@verizon.net on Oct. 16 2008,14:58 File attached with info about the crash above. Posted by: deboyer@verizon.net on Oct. 16 2008,15:38 Additional actions: In an attempt to get software working. 1) switched to admin account 2) uninstalled 3.05 3) explorer - searched for anything to do with tag studio / magnus brading and removed it - including saved downloads / zip files. 4) emptied recycle bin 5) restarted computer 6) downloaded unlimited 3.05 with banners. 7) unzipped to folder and ran setup to install - install was successful. 9) Must be something old (registry / dll) hanging around. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Oct. 22 2008,11:23 Only the 3.5 beta version support Vista (i.e. not the 3.05 version)[I]. Regarding the install/uninstall, InstallShield manages this, so I sadly have no control over it myself. I have never heard about any such uninstall problems in Vista before though, but as you say, it might be due to the multiple logged in users, and the permission system of Windows. Posted by: deboyer@verizon.net on Oct. 22 2008,16:19 OK thanks. I did not realize only beta supported Vista. FYI, since I started using Vista, most of the problems I've experienced have been with installs. What I see a lot of now with Vista installs and consider to be a "proper installation" is: During the install I'm asked if I'm installing only for the logged in user or all users. Maybe there is an upgraded version of Install Shield for Vista. I did the installation of beta 20 this morning with the following results. Hope this helps. Thanks, Dave . Logged into admin account . Did install (all defaults) . Installed OK, Run's OK. Uninstall is available in control panel. . Switched to my user account . MP3Tag Studio not available to run (start programs) . I did not try clicking on the executable or setting up a shortcut which probably would have worked. . Tried to run install. Gave me option of installing certain features or repairing. . Tried repair first - nothing happened. . Tried install features. Selections resulted in adding 0 bytes to hard drive, nothing happened. . Switched back to admin. . Uninstalled. . Switched back to my user account. . Installed. Installed OK and runs. . Uninstall is NOT available in control panel. (Assume it is in admin account as in past). end |
