-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Support and Bug Reports +---Topic: Mass update of tags started by Thomas Hamstrup Posted by: Thomas Hamstrup on April 12 2004,13:55 I think this program looks very nice and I am willing to subscribe (even if I am subscribing to other good programs). I am interested in it because of one specific thing: The ability to mass update tags from an input file. I have therefore made a file with all my mp3-files in order to update composer and lyricist. The targetfile is the full path to the file. Unfortunately, it seems, that the program ignore the full path and only works in the "working directory". This is not very convinient, since all my files is organized in a seperate directory per album. In order to this operation I will have to make 500 different files and make 500 different updates instead of one. Am I doing something wrong or is it so??? Posted by: Magnus Brading on April 12 2004,16:20 To do this, simply use an advanced mode template with the "<Target file AP>" field (the "AP" stands for "absolute path"). Posted by: Thomas Hamstrup on April 12 2004,18:10 Hi Magnus Thanks for the help, that was just what I needed. There is another problem with this mass update. I am updating a 6718 records file, using 2 fields to update (which is not previously written). It takes a long time to write every tag and the program more less locks the computer. Also the cancel button does not respond att all (ctrl-alt-delete will kill the program). Is there any solutions to this or do I just have to wait for the program to finish? Posted by: Magnus Brading on April 12 2004,19:32 Writing ID3v2 tags to files that don't previously have an ID3v2 tag normally needs to rewrite the entire contents of the mp3 file. You can use the "Super fast v2 tagging" option in the "Tagging core" section of the global settings to prevent this, but make sure to read the notes in the help file about this option VERY CAREFULLY before doing this! Also, there might be delays like those you describe when writing data to files that already contain ID3v2 tags with larger amounts of data in them (e.g. album art). This problem derives from certain Delphi functions (please see < this thread > for more info about this issue), but I have made a workaround for this too in the upcoming beta version of the next update. Please stay tuned. Posted by: thomas@hamstrup.dk on April 12 2004,19:46 For your information, I have now registered. All my tags are written originally by Catraxx (developed in Delphi) and they all contain cover art. That might be the explanation. Since I am only writing composer and lyricist, do you think the smart option you mentioned will help? If not I will just start the program before bedtime. When I look at the preview (direct tag) I can't see the value of lyricist (even if there exists a value). Will that be fixed in next patch release? Posted by: Magnus Brading on April 12 2004,20:07 If the delay problem is due to the cover art issue, the super fast tagging option won't sadly help, it is for a different thing. About the preview, all ID3v2 fields are not shown in it because they are so incredibly many, only the most common ones, otherwise it would be too messy. ![]() Thanks for registering, if the problem still remains you can send me an email and I can give you access to an alpha version where the problem is fixed if you want. Posted by: hamsen on April 13 2004,16:43 Hi Magnus I started the program before going to bed, and it went well. I suppose, that after having written the two new tags to all files, new (small) tags in the future will be faster. I was wondering, if it would be possible to control which fields and in which order to show in preview. Most of the fields shown now is not used by me. end |
