-Brading Software Message Board +--Forum: Mp3/Tag Studio Suggestions +---Topic: Support for MP4 and possibly WMA? started by tobiaspb Posted by: tobiaspb on Feb. 10 2004,12:31 Hi. Just have to say that I love MP3 Tag Studio (MTS). I think I have tried them all but MTS stands head and shoulders over all the others. But since more people are starting to use MPEG4 (MP4) will it be supported in a future version of MTS? If it's planned already, great, when? Also it would be nice to be able to rename WMA files with MTS. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 10 2004,13:41 Are most people starting to use mp4? I didn't know they had finalized that standard yet? Can you give any good links to websites with software players and info about mp4? Ans yes, support for other formats than mp3 is already on the todo-list. Posted by: tobiaspb on Feb. 11 2004,19:15 Hi. Not most, but more and more. I'm not sure how the final the spec on MPEG 4 audio files is. For instance Apple iTunes are coded in MPEG 4. But here are some links: MPEG-4 Audio (Final Committee Draft 14496-3): < http://www.tnt.uni-hannover.de/project/mpeg/audio/documents/ > General info and licensing "problems": < http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,97045,00.asp > Apple: < http://www.apple.com/mpeg4/aac/ > MPEG-4 Structured Audio: < http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~lazzaro/sa/ > I hope this helps a little :-) Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 12 2004,03:11 Thanks for the links! Do you have any idea if they seem to use normal ID3 tags for the mp4 files in most of the current players, or did some funny guy come up with a new format? Does anyone even have any links regarding this issue maybe? Posted by: tobiaspb on Feb. 13 2004,14:28 Sorry. I haven't found any information on the format of the id tags yet. :-\ I have included a picture of the MP4 info editor in Winamp 5 of a file I encoded with Nero Posted by: tobiaspb on Feb. 13 2004,14:39 I found some links. mp3tag also have source code available. Hydrogen Audio: < http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?showtopic=17501& > mp3tag which support tagging AAC, MP4 and m4a: < http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html > MPEG-4 Industry Forum < http://www.m4if.org/ > Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 13 2004,19:08 Could you email me a small sample mp4 file having a tag (or upload it as an attachment here), so I can take a look at the tag? Posted by: tobiaspb on Feb. 16 2004,18:39 I have mailed you two files. (wasn't able to upload them here). The one called "Windows XP Startup (nero).mp4" was coded with "Nero Digital Audio (HE-AAC) (*.mp4)" in Nero. The one called "Windows XP Startup (changed in winamp).mp4" was edited in Winamp 5.02 and saved. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 16 2004,19:41 Hmm, seems like some completely new tag format, I will need full technical specs to be able to read and process it... Aargh, why the hell couldn't they just stick to ID3v2 tags, as if they aren't generic enough... Posted by: tobiaspb on Feb. 17 2004,11:48 That doesn't sound good. Just tell me if there is anything I can do to help. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 17 2004,22:29 Well, you could always give me a link to a technical specification of this new tag standard. Posted by: tobiaspb on Feb. 18 2004,00:42 Ok :-) I will have this in mind when searching around. If I find something I will post it here. Posted by: noddy on Feb. 19 2004,11:00 ---------------------QUOTE BEGIN------------------- Well, you could always give me a link to a technical specification of this new tag standard. ---------------------QUOTE------------------- Magnus, Don't know if this helps, but it sounds like these guys seem to know something about it (I openly admit I know NOTHING about coding) < Discussion > Good luck. Cheers, Bruce. Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 20 2004,18:15 Thanks for the info, it seems like mp4 tags are something of a jungle at this point, with several proprietary and non-compatible systems. Posted by: tylast on Feb. 29 2004,00:10 < http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?showtopic=16239&hl= > This thread talks about what other people are using as the tagging standard. Posted by: tylast on April 05 2004,23:57 Tag&Rename 3.1 beta 1 now supports it. Here is the blurb from the e-mail: * added mp4 files tags support (tested with Nero mp4, Real mp4 and Easy CD-DA Extractor mp4 files) Posted by: elsz on May 24 2004,14:04 I don't know if there really are any greater need to support the Mp4 or Wma, they are very mutch not in use on the net. I suggest an implement of support for Monkey Audio, FLAC, MPC and OOG. These formates are the comming ones. Posted by: Topio on Feb. 09 2005,19:36 Any updates on WMA support? Posted by: Magnus Brading on Feb. 09 2005,21:54 It seems to me that the WMA format is getting less and less widespread rather than the opposite, so currently it doesn't look good for it, no. Posted by: Guest on April 02 2005,00:08 I would kill for the wma feature, I have like 30% of my files in this form and I have to create batch files whenever I want to work with the names. Posted by: Francesco Facconi on June 20 2005,11:11 Hi. I have just registered my copy of Mp3/Tag Studio. I also have a very big collection of Wma files, and I would like to see MTS working on them! Will it be possible? Thank you for your answer, Francesco Posted by: Magnus Brading on June 20 2005,12:11 As above, there are no direct plans for it, due to lack of widespread interest, but you never know, so stay tuned. Posted by: Guy Yardeni on Dec. 09 2005,00:06 I'm not sure why you have indicates that there is lack of use and interest in WMA files because I'm seeing them more and more. So for what it's worth, I'll add my request for support for the format. I currently need to use a second tag program to handle my WMA files. Thanks, Guy end |
