+---Topic: Title not displaying when I hover over the file started by Craig

Hello, this is a great program.  My file structure is organized like so:

c:\mp3\ben harper\oppression.mp3

I want to be able to tag the files using the filename and path.

I tried using the expression:
<Artist><\><Title>.mp3 and pointing it to c:\mp3

The problem is that now when I hover over the files in Windows Explorer, they do not display the Title of the song.....they do display the Artist.  Basically, the only information that I really want displayed is the Artist and the Title of the song.

Thanks for your help and thanks for the program.

Is the artist and title info correct when you view it in Mp3/Tag Studio or e.g. Winamp, or what do you mean? I cannot explain the behavior of some third-party shell-extension you might be using though, if the tags are correct.

Thanks for your response!  Here are some screen shots to show you what I mean...the first shows the Artist and Song Title like I want.  The second screenshot shows what happened after I ran the program using the above template string.

I can't answer your question about Winamp....I have not yet installed it, but plan to soon.  I just upgraded to Windows Media 11 beta and am kind of disoriented by the changes in it.  I assumed that if the tagging info was not correct when I hovered over the files, it would not be correct in a media player.  I may be wrong.

I would guess this is due to some kind of display setting in Windows Explorer (or a third-party shell extension used to display the tooltips in it). That's why I wanted you to look at the tag inside some program that will show you the full tag info, to see what's really inside the tags.

I'm going to jump in, to display some ignorance on my part.  What ever it is that is displaying the tag information when the cursor "hovers" over a file in Windows Explorer acts the same way for me.  So, how do I determine what program is being invoked on "hovering"?

My assumption has been that the program assumed (a second level assumption?  Sounds vaguely eclesiastical) that the file name was or contained the title.  This is, indeed, true for any files which I have "retagged and normalized" (for my particular value of "normal"), but not always for files which I have received from elsewhere.

From the tenor of the complaint I gather that when Mp3/tag S. is invoked on "hover" the title tag is also displayed.  How do I promote Mp3/tag S. to the head of the queue?

[Spelling checker, please?  I've been accused of suffering from orthographphobia.]

Mp3/Tag Studio does not have any hover-invoked shell extension feature, only a right-click-invoked one.

And I think that his default functionality might even be built into Windows XP, but I haven't looked into it, so I cannot say for sure.

Here is a program that you can use to browse and analyze what shell extensions are installed in your computer:
