I know the program is called mp3 tag studio Mr. Brading but I hope you can make the program handle other file formats. The program should handle at least the more popular ones like .ogg, .wma and maybe .vqf or "real audio" files.

Your program is fantastic and well thought out. The best laid out in my opinion considering the amount of features in it. Unfortunately, I've stopped using it because I can't retag some of my files.

I do some programming myself so I know your own skills are more than excellent. Adding support for other file formats won't take you  a month to release. Do this and I'll be clicking on that banner ad again (for a product I have no need for at that!) for at least ten times every time I get on the internet.

Good day to you,
Ariel

I have thought about this a lot, and I do of course agree that it would be very useful. The problem is that your assumtion about the time it would take (a month) is greatly underestimated. :(

If all these tag formats would have had the same fields in them and been otherwise equivalent, it wouldn't be too much trouble, but the problem is that they all have different fields, and all have lots of quirks that are unique to themselves. This complicates things A LOT, especially in the aspect of creating a common GUI for them. :( This is the reason for why I have not done this yet.

please, add support for lossless formats (ape, flac, shorten etc.): i'm looking for an alternative software, but i like mp3tag studio interface and userfriedshipness... ...and add also a "disc" field for tagging... ...it's usefull for multicd albums...

excuse me for my bad school english but my school sucked...

Perhaps you could start by adding support for OGG files.
And maybe for just the fields that mp3s also have.
That probably wouldn't require much changes in the GUI.

I've had a hard time finding a good tagging program since I moved to oggs...

another suggestion: a "disc (or album) artist" field in addition to the single track's "artist" field... ...compilations need this field to be displayed correctly (setting "vv.aa." for the album, and single artist's names for the single tracks) in some tag-reading players...

thank you

I can't just add fields that are not included in the ID3v2 specification, but all fields that are defined there can already be written from all tools that write data to tags in Mp3/Tag Studio, e.g. the browse tool, auto tag tool and mass set tool. Simply find out which ID3v2 field it is that these other programs are referring to as "disc (or album) artist", and then you can read/write this field from Mp3/Tag Studio too.

this works fine for .ogg, since the id3 standard is the std tagging format there....

but I batch-rename my files a lot, and .ogg end up as .mp3s...
so, an option like "keep current file extension while renaming" would be great..., or even better might be the option to define extensions that are to be preserved... so .ogg might still be .ogg, but .mf3 as a typo might still be corrected to .mp3 ....

since my iHP-120 from iriver supports .ogg i would like to use this format, but can't do so effectively without your great tagging software...

I hope you consider this, it should not be too muh of a programming effort

This functionality could be quite easily accomplished by using a filter that processes only mp3 files, together with a template ending in ".mp3", and then doing the same for the ogg files. But are you suggesting that ogg files use only normal ID3 tags? That's not what I remember from checking it last? If that is the case, Mp3/Tag Studio practically has ogg support just as much as mp3 support, since it can process files having any extension equally well, as long as the files contain ID3 tags!

Hello Magnus,

I came back after almost half a year to check out your program and see if you have a new release. I was disapponted to see that you haven't any. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised to see that you made a reply a day after my posting explaining the shortness of a month to add the functionality I was hoping for. So my disappointment was alleviated somewhat by the prospect of a coming new version. It has been six months so you must have made some progress towards a new release!

Currently, I'm working as a DJ at an internet webcasting station based in the Philippines where we exclusively use the MP3 format. Your software has been a workhorse for me (again!) for the past 4 months now! I've also mentioned your program to our listeners a number of times asking them to check your software out. (Check us out too at www.phibi.com; we speak in tagalog at times but mostly in english so you will understand at least half of what we say.)

Still waiting for that release,

ariel (a.j.)

Yeah, as usual I'm really sorry about the delay. :( Since this software development project is not my main work, I can get very little time for it sometimes when my other work is taking up much time, as is has been doing lately. I think I will be able to get a new version out within a month or so now though. *keeping fingers crossed*

And thanks for recommending Mp3/Tag Studio to other people!
