Hi Guys,
I have just started using mp3 tag studio which looks great but, scary.
I am trying to seach all songs with an empty album field in the id3v1 and v2 tags and, then, add the word "Single" to them. Can anyone help or point me to a previous post if it has already been answered?

Simply use the mass set tool combined with a filter for that tag field. Done!

Thanks Magnus but, I just need a little more help.
I'm assuming I need to turn on "use filtering" in the "general settings" area. Then, check the album field but, how do I get it to ignore the fields that contain data and only update the fields that are empty?

Set the filter to include all files that have an empty album field, and set the mass set tool to set the album field to "Single". Due to the filtering, it will only do this on the files that pass the filter, namely the ones with an empty album field.

And as always, experiment with smaller sets of backed up files until you get your desired operation right, and then apply it to more files when it works as you want.
