I've had no problems working with Firefox bookmarks, but IE Favorites are not handled well.

Initially I tried merging IE Favorites and Firefox bookmarks and it died at a certain point. (It gave a percentage complete but I don't remember. It didn't indicate which bookmark caused a problem.)

I had the same thing happen when I tried to convert IE to Mozilla.

Finally I exported the favorites from within IE and saved them as html. I think I was able to call them Firefox and merge them with the real Firefox. I haven't sorted through the results fully but that appears to work.

I did look for duplicate URLs, and in many of the duplicates I noticed the title had an apostrophe, and that one version had the actual apostrophe and the other had an "escaped" notation where several characters represent the apostrophe.

This make me think the problem may lie in special characters such as apostrophes, and that the two browsers may handle them differently. In any event, IE Favorites do not process very well. It looks like its necessary to export them as html before using Bookmark Converter.

I like the program, but it would be a lot easier to use if this were fixed.

Thanks for the report. IE favorites are normally handled well, so my guess is that there is some special favorite that causes these problems. If you can isolate this favorite and send it to me, I can analyze and try to fix the problem.

I also had this problem when converting Firefox and IE.  Every time ther is an apostrophe it gets replaced with "'" in IE.
So, if the bookmark name was Joe's Computers it will show as
Joe's Computers in IE.  I will not purchase the product until the bug is fixed.

This sounds like some unexpected character encoding in the Firefox bookmark files, I will take a look at it.
