I was wondering if you might consider a file splitting utility. I download audiobooks from the internet and the files usually range in length from 30 minutes to several hours. I would like to split the files into more manageable track sizes. It would also be useful for splitting downloaded albums into tracks.

Problems I've had with file splitting programs are: they corrupt the file [a second of audio is lost aat each split]

They are slow and awkward to use.

You are the man for the job, Magnus, using your program has convinced me you would create a useful, elegant solution to this problem.

Allo Ron,
Welcome to the Board.
I also have large files not books but stand up comedy (Eddie Izzard, George Carlin etc).
I have found that Sound Forge works great with splitting them up.
Have you tried it?

It would be a nice add on for MP3/TS though.
Come on Magnus! Stop sunbathing and sort it out

Yes, such a feature is actually already on the todo-list for a future version of Mp3/Tag Studio. Sadly, this list is veeeery long, and so far this feature has had to be put to the side for more important issues. But as I said, it's on the list.

And TokyoElbow, stop recommending other programs to people on my board!  :)  Just kidding.  :D

(and I wish I had the time to sunbathe more)

Hello Tokyoelbow,
I have used an editor like Wavelab but it isn't as efficient as it could be. I'm currently using Quicksplitter [sorry Magnus :D ] With this program I just have to highlight a group of files in explorer right click and do all my splitting. Unfortunately it doesn't detect the frames properly and it will delete a smae amount of the sound file.
I've never used sound forge. Does it have a batch processing feature or do you have to open each file to split it?

Hi there,
I'm lucky that I'm not the only one who asked Magnus for that file splitting thing...
I think when you split mp3s with some filesplitting tool and you use winamp to play them, there will be only very little missing on the cut end. (I never heared that there was missing something in my audiobooks).
But if you really want correct mp3 parts you can use the filecutting part of the mp3ts and do 2 cuts on the source file.
First you cut off the end (Backup the Source File !), then you cut off the beginning. Both saved as 2 new files...
Well, ok it's not very comfortable, and you have many files to split you'll probably go insane..., but at least it's a way.

Im not sure with Sound Forge as I use it mainly for recording tests for my students.
I think you have to open each file separately (a timely practice) but I may be wrong.

Just stumbled over this program. I haven't tried it yet myself, but I thought I'd mention it anyways.

Try it and use it if it's good. At least while we wait for Magnus to implement a far more superior method into mp3ts ...  :D

Sound forge can tage ages to edit a 30 minute file.
