I have a TON of music.  Been collecting CD's for years, and made them all digital over time.  Have over 200 GB in high quality OGG and mp3's, mostly in OGG.  I'm adding more often as I buy a lot of music as I see fit.

I currently manage all this through a simple, large directory structure and use Winamp to play, but it is getting to be really troublesome to manage this way and  there is a lot of manual intervention.  Often I even forget what I have available to play, or end up searching through endless directories.

Can anyone recommend a good app to do it all for me? I'm looking for something that makes it really easy to select music, see what i have at hand, generate dynamic playlists, maybe do intelligent, semi-random, play, etc...

any suggestions would be helpful.  Open source is a plus, but i buy good products that I think are worth it.

Thanks

You might want to look at Media Jukebox. Handles many formats, lets you define your own View Schemes (how your music is sorted/viewed), rips and burns, has Smartlists (dynamically generated playlists according to your rules), does a bunch of stuff. Version 9 is in beta - I do not recommend using it yet. v8 is pretty stable, though as always, your mileage may vary.

If you don't feel that you need quite that level of organization, etc. or you would like to stick with WinAmp as your player, you could have a look at Dapyx MP3 Explorer. It builds a DB of your tracks, has a tag editor, and interfaces with WinAmp. Pretty sure that it handles ogg.

Got a huge amount of mp3s?

Why not try my free mp3 Jukebox called IPLAY. Iplay was specifacally designed to handle huge amounts of tracks and is built on the mySQL database engine.

pop over to my site and have a look IPLAY MP3 Jukebox

Andy Your program Looks like What I have been looking for.

I will try to install it over easter and check it out.

A quick question. Can it detect if a CD is in the drive and it contains MP3s it scans them into the SQL database automatically.

I want to use Iplay on my home theatre system. I would like to see a menu (it may be there) that allows me to transfer the Mp3's from the Inserted CD to the Harddisk. That way you can file them as per the normal system. Otherwise Whats on the CD needs to be added to the SQL database and be only active when the CD is in the drive.

I would like to know is there a software which is remote controlled to allow DVD, CD, MP3, SVCD, VCD, MPEG, MPEG2, Images playback from a central menu??

This should work both from harddisk or DVD Drive

Just some thoughts
