Hi First post here .

I have always considerd mp3 tag studio the best of the taggers.
but it is somewhat cryptic in some areas.

Could someone enlighten me about the <Comment> function in "Auto Tag (from Filename)"

I do not know if this tag can do what i want. there is no reference about it in the "Help file"
but here is something I often do , only manually (short of finding the proper way!;):

On a compilation album for a set of filenames like:
01 artist name -  song name.mp3
02 other artist -  ------------
03 other artist -  ------------
etc...
i know how to parse the fields properly from the "Auto Tag (from Filename)" in advance mode.BUT!
I'd like to be able to add or insert a "Custom COMMENT" in Front or After.
in the <Artist> or <Title> Fields.
for exemple from a base name:
36 Ruslana - Wild Dance.mp3
turned into:
Title: Wild Dance (Ukraine)
Artist:E.V.S.C.(2004)(01)(Istanbul) Ruslana
Track:36

I may be looking in the wrong area of mp3/tag studio
just thought that logically <comment> would be the right area In any case is it possible and how!
Now what would be cool is to be able to get the "content of the comment" from a "variable" like in an already existing field the date for exemple or from a file with the artist and title only.
A possibly simpler way would be a function where from the "mass set tags/flags" you just insert something in a existing field without erasing what is already there.

The idea is i have a plugin that enable me to see a ticker in the top of any open windows and I like to see more than artist/filename when the Music plays, or when i print my listings.

Thanks in advance.

I knew it.! As soon as i asked a question  I found the answer (those little push buttons in mass/set tags) browsing the entire Forum archives.
Solution which is so simple it makes you want cry..Of joy!

Still  Following the same line of though there is still the need for one more button... when you think about it!
How about append, overwrite, prepend, & "selective delete".

the most used function of the program (for me anyway) are :
Auto/tag (from filename)
& Mass/set tags flag.
Renaming.. Well I'm too dumb to remenber all the pipes , redirection and all for renaming files, so i used a small deadly-fast tool call Renamer for that purpose but i'm drifting here!;)

See when you deal with a single artist it is no problem, but when it is multiple artists or a compilation then it becomes more complicated.
i mean following my previous exemple, say i had:

Artist:E.V.S.C.(2004)(01)(Istanbul) Ruslana | Title: Wild Dance (UKRAINE)
Artist:E.V.S.C.(2004)(02)(Istanbul) Zeljko Joksimovic  | Title: Lane moje (SERBIA & MONTENEGRO)
Artist:E.V.S.C.(2004)(03)(Istanbul) Sakis Rouva  | Title: Shake it (GREECE)

And wanted to shift Istanbul at the end of the Title for exemple
I could just input in mass/set tags:

Artist box:"(Istanbul)" and tick "selective delete".
title box:"(Istanbul)"  and tick "append"
execute!
and get :
Artist:E.V.S.C.(2004)(01) Ruslana | Title: Wild Dance (UKRAINE) (Istanbul)
Artist:E.V.S.C.(2004)(02) Zeljko Joksimovic  | Title: Lane moje (SERBIA & MONTENEGRO) (Istanbul)
Artist:E.V.S.C.(2004)(03) Sakis Rouva  | Title: Shake it (GREECE) (Istanbul)

Now wouldn't that be cool!  Man ! I would have to part with my hard earned money for sure :agree:

1.
The <Comment> field does, just like all other normal fields, parse out information to a tag field, in this case the "Comment" field of ID3 tags.

2.
You say you don't use Mp3/Tag Studio to rename files (even though you successfully use it to auto tag) because you're "too dumb to remenber all the pipes, redirection and all for renaming files", but the process of renaming files in Mp3/Tag Studio is actually even easier, and practically identical, to auto tagging files, so please don't be afraid to use that feature too, you might like it. ;)

3.
Selective deletion can be easily accomplished with the <TRASH> field when tagging files from their names. You can also use the "Direct rename files" tool to move around any part of the original text string to any other place, just like in your example.

4.
I'm looking forward to you parting with the earlier mentioned hard earned money. :p
