Sorry for posting so many questions all at once... I'm trying to normalize (i.e. DB "normalize") mp3 files that were tagged using Musicmatch JB version 7.5 without blowing away all the tag data...
Using a small mp3 file, and MMJB, I typed "<field>TEST" (where "field" is the name of the MMJB user-editable field and "TEST" is the word I placed into that field) into every user-editable field that MMJB provided.
Then I examined my TEST file with MP3TS Browse/Edit Tags & Flags window and looked in the ID3v2 Tag Info box to see the results.
In the Comment box of the Some Additional Useful Fields pane I found "Notes TEST" so I know that this Comment field comes from the MMJB Notes field.
In the Advanced ID3v2 Info window, I found the following in the Additional Frames in Tag list (showing tagname and contents of the Frame Contents field) in the following order:
USLT = Unsupported binary data COMM = Bios TEST WOAF = audio file url TEST WOAR = artist url TEST WCOM = buy cd url TEST COMM = Mood TEST COMM = Situation TEST COMM = Tempo TEST *TLEN = a 6-digit number COMM = Pref TEST *TPUB = Ohr *TPE2 = Ash Ra Tempel
The * indicates the data was inserted by MMJB.
Question 1: Why didn't mp3ts identify the other ID3v2 frames and show <blank> in the Frame Contents field?
Question 2: If mp3ts only identifies tags (frames??) that contain data, is there some way to force it to list empty frames?
Question 3: What determines the order in which the tags (frames??) and various COMM fields are listed?
Question 4: If there is a specified order, can I rely on that order when setting up an Excel list for importing tag data back into the mp3 files?
Question 5: Some COMM fields had data in the Content Description line, other COMM fields did not. Where did the displayed data come from?
Question 6: Is there a maximum length to the ID3v2 tag area and if so, what is it?
Again, sorry for all the questions but I just don't want to screw up several years of manual data entry.
