Hi,
As I'm a real customer now
, may I present some feature requests ?1. in file rename, why replace " by - ? " Should stay ", no ? (got this ?
)2. a very cool thing to clean tags in long lists would be to have an excel-like presentation, where you can see the fields you want, filter and sort on what you want, and can directly edit what's editable (kinda the way Windows Media Player 8 does in its "multimedia library"). Big job I guess...
3. actually and IMHO, MP3 Tag Studio still lacks some functionnalities / ergonomy in some ways so that for I still use in MP3 tagscanner (http://xdev.narod.ru) in some cases.
4. and of course, filtering on track number
Oh, and how do I get rid of the banner now ?
Last thing : for some time now, MP3TS keeps flickering on my screen whatever I do. I hope having a registered version will solve this...

We've had disussions in this forum about illegal character replacement, with me voting for user-defined replacements, including non-replacement, ie. no character at all. With regard to double-quotes, they are reserved characters in Windows filesystem, not to be used for filenames. However, I don't think there would be a problem replacing them with 2 single quote characters.

About my comment on the flickering : I solved this, thanks to the help file that deals with it.
About 1. reserved characters : I thought " was not one, so MP3TS behaves fine. Please ignore my question (although I also think user-defined replacements would be cool).
About 2. excel-like presentation : already a *very* cool addition, yet much simpler to develop, would be to allow filtering on the "Browse/Edit tags & flags" tab. (so for instance I can, say, easily set a year to all files that don't have one).
About 3.

Perhaps I don't understand - you can do this from the Mass Set Tags tab with filtering, no? That is if you are setting the tags for more than one file. Browse/Edit is more for single file "touch-up" operations, AFAIK.

About the spread-sheet and filter for the browse tool, they are already planned for a future update (Disposable Hero, filtering for the browse tool could be used to make some operations a little easier, like e.g. "now-I'm-gonna-fill-in-the-year-field-of-all-the-mp3-files-in-this-directory-that-do-not-have-
it-filled-in-yet,-but-sadly-they-all-have-different-year-numbers"
I think that is what mll meant too).

I just saw something that's hard to do in MP3TS :
i have a list of mp3's, many of which are from the same authors. Example :
10 are from Foo
3 from Bar
15 from John Doe
...with no filtering way possible. I'd like to parse them in "Browse/Edit" and have a way to have MP3TS remind what was I set in the previous file I edited (MP3 tagscanner does it quite well). But if the spread-sheet-like stuff comes, I guess we could easily copy and paste on several cells, hence achieving what I want.
Hope I was clear...

Oh, and also...
- ability to remember what was set in the privous track#, and automagically increase it
- more keyboard shortcuts (one for next file, one for previous mainly)
- still in browse mode, being able to delete a file

You can use alt-up and alt-down for this (press F1 while being in the browse tool, to bring up its help page with more info about hot-keys and such).

If I understand correctly, your field-locking request would be similar to < AnalogX's TagMaster > and some other tag editors. Personally, I dislike the idea of loading up the browse tab with stuff like this - it's one of the reasons that I use Tag Studio and not other programs. Mass Set handles multiple file writes, and Browse/Edit is for touchups.
Automatically incrementing the track # in Browse seems like it would be very dependent, ie. only one album is represented in the Browse list and it's sorted properly and you don't click the wrong file. IMO, this would be better addressed within Mass Set. The key being: godlike control over listing order.
I believe that Magnus has put extraction of binary data from tags on his to-do list.

I have to say I agree with Disposable Hero's thoughts on this too, thanks for sharing your ideas though.
And yes, extraction of images from v2 tags are already planned for a future update.

OK, il love the mass setup with filters, but sometimes you nedd to "touchup" a huge list with no way of filtering (filenames meaningless,...). That's my very case these days (my feature requests are not just for fun
).And did I say an "include subdirs" option in the browse tab would be great ? Together with a field where you can copy parts of the path/filename, and also the choice of sorting according to sole filename, or path+filename, or <artist>-<title>

If you activate the "Detailed mp3 info" option in the browse tool, there will be a box from which you can select and copy (or even drag-and-drop) parts of the filename to the tag fields.

Hello, I think this is a similar request to the "field-locking" request. I would find it very handy if the Title, Artist, Album etc fields in the "Browse/Edit tags" section had a "history" feature, i.e. a pull-down listing of say the last 5 entered artists (which I could select using the up/down keyboard keys). Sort of like the way which most programs remember the last 5 or so recently opened files. So that when I am renaming an entire album I don't have to type the same names over and over.
I hope that made some sense

If you tag an entire album, you should use the "mass set tags/flags" tool. This will minimize your work, and have it done in a few seconds.

Yes, I do that
However I would still find that to be a handy feature, as I usually use this program to tag unsorted songs which are all in one directory (which could be from multiple artists), and then sort them with the mass rename feature.
Altogether an excellent program, simply the best mp3 tagging and organising tool I have seen.
