The scenerio :
You spent ages twiddling all your filters and ticks are in all the right boxes and youve set up your flags and all the rest of it.
Then an update pops along and you think
"God ! Do I have to go through and set it all up again?"

So can I export my settings?

It would be nice if I could.
And if I can , that means I havnt gone through the manual properly

And one more point, not just for mp3 T/s ,
The help file:
Is it possible to print it out in one go?
It seems you can only print out topics.
PDF would be nice (suggestion too small to edit and shove it in the right forum) :D

You can always keep all your settings by downloading and using the "Update patch" packs instead of the full install packs on the website. Such update packs are always available for updates within the same major version (e.g. 3.0 -> 3.2 and so on), but not necessarily between major version upgrades (e.g. 3.9 -> 4.0). Luckily, major version upgrades don't happen that often, and I'll try to automatically keep the settings in these too in the future.

To move your settings between different computers, simply copy the file "mp3ts.dat" in the Mp3/TS install dir. This file contains most settings, and the rest (e.g. the saved templates) are stored in the following registry key, that you can export/import between the two computers too:

Code Sample
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Magnus Brading Software\Mp3-Tag Studio

About the manual, there is no easy way that I know of to convert it to a linear file, and it is practically impossible to keep two separate versions of it in sync, so you'll probably have to stick with the non-printable one for a while. :(

But if you start from the welcome-page of the help file, and then follow the links and read each page, you will be able to cover most of the help file in a pretty linear and natural fashion anyway I think. At least that was my intention when I designed it.

It's not a major technical challenge to dump HLP files out to RTF, but as Magnus points out, this can become a headache. Multiple versions to keep track of, one more file to manage...

TokyoElbow - if you click the "Print..." button immediately after opening the help file, and you select "All" for the page range, it does not function correctly?

Thanks Magnus, I new there would be an easy answer.

I suppose the print option is just one of those things really.

I dont think so, but its quite difficult to see as the pc Im working on is Japanese  :( .
I have tried it with other help files and managed to print all pages. Ive done this with a Mixmeister file. the extension being   .CHM .
Never mind I can live with it, I just wanted something to read on my long journeys to work.
I can manually copy and paste into word and print it off, maybe when its done I can offer it for people to use (The Word File)if its ok with your Highness :D

bye

That sounds like a lot of work, TokyoElbow. Maybe try the demo of this thing.

Sure, if anyone creates a conversion of the help file, feel free to distribute it. Just make sure to make it clear what it is, from where it originates, and that it is unofficial. :)

Why don't you upload it to this board too while you're at it, so we can see if you did a proper job. ;)

All the links seem to have trash data appended to them. E.g. a link called "ID3v1 and ID3v2" now says "ID3v1 and ID3v2jeuqjl" and one that says "advanced operation mode" now says "advanced operation modecw5co". At least when I view the file in Word 2000.

Well, he said he would make it look awful  :agree:

Possibly a Kanji/Katakana/Hiragana/whatever problem? I see stuff like that regularly in documentation from Asian nations.

It must be  a Japanese thing because it looks fine on the machine at work. No strange charactors at all. When I click to download the help file It opens up in another browser window
and looks fine.
Im afraid you will have to install Japanese support  :agree:

Or move to Tokyo

Im installing Office XP on the machine today so Ill see if that can clean it up for you.
Ok ?
:D

Hello again.
I've deleted that other post with the help document , as I dont want to hog your webspace up.
Heres another one.
I installed XP office but it doesnt seem to be any different.
But the difference may show up on an English OS.

Give it a go and let me know!

Now all the links have text of the form "_Page XX" appended instead. E.g. the link "ID3v1 and ID3v2" now says "ID3v1 and ID3v2 _Page 12" and the one that says "advanced operation mode" now says "advanced operation mode _Page 30". Also, all headings have a lot of crap prepended to them.

But don't worry about it, it's more than enough for me that you can view it fine, I don't really read the Mp3/TS manual too often anyway. ;)

If you were ever to distribute it in any other way, please just make it very clear that it is an unofficial product, ok? :)

It there so that people can turn to the correct page relating to that topic/point. Quite a good idea i thought.

What I meant about the headings is the following. The heading "Welcome to Mp3/Tag Studio" now says "{TC "Contents" \I 1}{XE "Contents"}Welcome to Mp3/Tag Studio". That might be stuff that is invisible when printing, but it shows up when I view it in IE/Word anyway.

And about the page references, yes, that might very well be a good idea. I just thought that it was something that had been added unintentionally, like in the last case. :)
