+---Topic: Track length wrong if mp3 contains cover art started by derkleinemicha

Hi,

I experienced that the track length calculated e.g. for custom lists is wrong if the mp3 file contains cover art.

In this case the track length is calculated as too long, because MP3TS probably just calculates the track length by dividing the file size by the bitrate. But it should of course first reduce the file size by the size of the cover art, then it could calculate the track length correctly.

Please correct it, because I'm using this tool very often, and since iTunes offers DRM-free tracks including cover art, this tool gets almost worthless for me...

Thanks a lot in advance,
Michael

With what method was the cover art stored? If it's stored inside a valid ID3v2 tag, this should not happen as far as I know?

Hi Magnus,

this happens when I buy DRM-free *.m4a tracks (aka iTunes Plus) from iTunes and convert them to mp3 using < EasyCD-DA Extractor >, which is using Lame 3.98 codec.

When I play these tracks e.g. with Winamp, Winamp displays that cover art correctly:

Anything that I'm doing wrong during that process?

Thanks,
Michael

If you send me such a file (take the smallest one you find) I can take a look at how the album art is stored in the file.

OK, I sent a file last evening to the e-mail address that I also receive the forum notifications from... is that the correct one?

The file I sent you is about 4,7 MB large, Winamp or tools like Audio Shell show 2:50 as track length, while MP3TS pretends it would be 2:55 long.

I hope this helps to make out the problem.

Cheers,
Michael

It seems that the album art is stored correctly within the ID3v2 tag, and that no other data has been added outside the tag, very strange. I will save the sample file together with a note about this problem, thanks.

OK, I hope you'll find a solution for it, although you currently still seem to be in the dark...

Enjoy the rest of Easter Monday (we have wonderful weather here in Germany at the moment!;),
cheers,
Michael
