+---Topic: Various Artists vs. featured artist started by Scooter

I'm using MusicMatch 10 to copy the CD's to the computer. A lot of my compelation CD's get put into a "various artists" folder and MusicMatch tags the artist as "various."

Is also populates a field it calls "featured artist" which is populated correctly.

How do I use mp3 tag studio to copy the contents of the "featured artist" field to the "artist" field?

Ideas?

1.
Get hold of which ID3v2 frame that Musicmatch stores this info in, and note down its frame ID. You can do this in the "Advanced ID3v2 info" dialog of the browse tool.

2.
Perform the following operation in the "Direct tag manipulation" tool (advanced mode):

<V2_XXXX>  ------>  <Artist>

(Where the "XXXX" is the frame ID that you noted down in step 1)

Done! :)

Thanks, but I'm not sure I understand.

On the advanced ID3v3 browsing, I see the data I'm looking for in a frame called "Comment (COMM)"  The content desccription says "MusicMatch_TrackArtist".

I then went to the advance portion of the direct tag manipulation, I tried <v2_COMM> --> artist and <v2_MusicMatch_TrackArtist> --> artist - both gave me a red <v2_xxxx> and would not let me execute.

I'm using 3.5 beta 16.  I'm pretty computer savvy, but I must be missign something.

Ah, they are using special comment fields for it... Mp3/Tag Studio does not currently fully support special comment fields in all operations. :(

Do the files have another comment field too, or is this "featured artist" visible in the normal comment field inside Mp3/Tag Studio?

Thanks for the quick reply!

I did some digging around and was not able to see the data stored in any other fields.  In Musicmatch, it shows only in the featured artists field.  Using your program, the only place I was able to read the data was in the advanced id3v2 view.

Great program though!  Works great for everything else.  Any chance in support special comment fields in future releases?

Yes, special comment field support is planned for future versions, so stay tuned!

I'm actually trying to "mass delete" all the "comm" frames from all my mp3s...  I don't really want/need them, and they are sometimes filled with junk, any idea when we'll be able to select "comm" or other frames that aren't currently listed in the dropdown for "additional ID3v2 Tags to clear"?

Thanks,
Omzig10

Practically all ID3v2 frames are present in this box already. Comment fields are a little annoying special case though, since they can have multiple instances with different content descriptors. Support for this is planned for a future version though, so please stay tuned.
